Full-time rule for county officials

County clerks, circuit clerks, assessors, prosecuting attorneys, and sheriffs in Class I–V counties must work full time for the county. Any assessor or any sheriff in Class VI–IX counties must also work full time. They cannot hold other jobs while in office. If an official’s current term began when no restriction applied, they are exempt for the rest of that term.
