Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Hospitals must post real prices online

Beginning July 1, 2026, every Wyoming hospital must post prices online for all items and services. They must also post prices for at least 300 shoppable services, or as many as they offer. Each entry must show all standard charges, like gross, cash, plan‑specific, and the lowest and highest negotiated rates, plus a clear description and any billing code. The lists must be free, easy to find from the home page, searchable, and visible to search engines. Hospitals must update the lists at least once a year and show the last‑updated date.

Health department will set rules

The Department of Health must write the rules to run this transparency law. The department can also recommend future changes to lawmakers, including updates to match federal CMS guidance. This authority applies while the law is in force through July 1, 2029.

Transparency law runs 2026 to 2029

The transparency rules take effect July 1, 2026. They end on July 1, 2029, when the law is repealed. After that date, the state posting and enforcement rules no longer apply.

Stronger enforcement and fines for hospitals

Starting July 1, 2026, the health department checks hospital compliance by reviewing complaints and auditing websites. If a hospital breaks the posting rules, the department issues a notice and requires a written corrective plan with a firm completion date. If the hospital ignores the notice or plan, daily fines apply. Critical access hospitals face $100 per day for the first offense, $500 per day for the second, and $1,000 per day for later offenses in a 12‑month period. Other hospitals face $1,000 per day. The licensing division may add license conditions, install a manager at the owner’s cost, suspend admissions, or deny or revoke the license for violations.
