Summary

Sets the monthly benefit at $1,000 for an insured member, with options to pick half that amount or an enhanced amount. The enhanced choices are nine options from $1,500 up to $5,000 in $500 steps. If service in a period is less than a month, payment is prorated by taking one‑thirtieth of the monthly rate and multiplying by the number of days served. The Secretary must check inflation each year and adjust those dollar amounts to keep their buying power the same. After adjustment, amounts are rounded to the nearest $10, except if they end in $5 but not $10, they are rounded down to the next lower $10.
