Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle E— - Reserve Components › Part PART III— - PROMOTION AND RETENTION OF OFFICERS ON THE RESERVE ACTIVE-STATUS LIST › Chapter CHAPTER 1409— - CONTINUATION OF OFFICERS ON THE RESERVE ACTIVE-STATUS LIST AND SELECTIVE EARLY REMOVAL › § 14706
Count a Reserve officer’s commissioned service when adding up total years of service for this chapter and chapter 1407, except for three kinds of time: service as a warrant officer, constructive service, and time served as a commissioned student getting the first professional degree if that student time happened before the officer’s first active-duty or Ready Reserve service in that specialty. If the officer already had active-duty or Ready Reserve service in non‑student status before the student period, that earlier service still counts. "Professional specialty" means the medical and related corps (for example, Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Medical Service), the Nurse Corps, Army Medical Specialists Corps, chaplains, and judge advocates.
