Unit commanders must tell civilian authorities when a military protective order is made against one of their service members. They must do this no later than seven days after the order and must say who the people named in the order are. If the service member is moved to another unit, the old unit’s commander must tell the new unit’s commander about the order and the people named by the transfer date. The new unit’s commander then must notify civilian authorities within seven days of getting that notice. If the order changes or ends, the member’s unit commander must also notify civilian authorities.
