Summary

Reserve members traveling for inactive-duty training may fly on military aircraft between their home and the training site, even if the training is at a different location than their unit. If they travel that way, they cannot get travel pay, transportation pay, or daily (per diem) allowances for the trip.

(a)A member of a reserve component traveling for inactive-duty training (including a place other than the place of the member’s unit training assembly if the member is performing inactive-duty training in another location) may travel in a space-required status on aircraft of the armed forces between the member’s home and the place of the inactive-duty training.
(b)A member traveling in a space-required status on any such aircraft under subsection (a) is not authorized to receive travel, transportation, or per diem allowances in connection with that travel.

(a) read as follows: “In the case of a member of a reserve component whose place of inactive-duty training is outside the contiguous States (including a place other than the place of the member’s unit training assembly if the member is performing the inactive-duty training in another location), the member may travel in a space-required status on aircraft of the armed forces between the member’s home and the place of such training if there is no transportation between those locations by means of road or railroad (or a combination of road and railroad).”
