Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— - General Military Law › Part PART III— - TRAINING AND EDUCATION › Chapter CHAPTER 103— - SENIOR RESERVE OFFICERS’ TRAINING CORPS › § 2108
The head of each military department may give enlisted members or people who served on active duty credit or advanced standing in advanced training when their education or past training justifies it. They can count similar military training done in another service or while on active duty and may skip parts of required courses, including field training and practice cruises, for people who already qualify. A person who gets a bachelor’s degree or finishes pre‑professional study can stay in or return to the program if they still need military instruction or training. The service head may delay the start of required active duty for someone accepted into on‑campus graduate or professional study, and the Army Secretary may delay a cadet’s reserve service start until the cadet finishes an accredited bachelor’s program. The service head may also release and discharge someone when the needs of the service require it.
