Summary

The Secretary of Defense must run a program to help students at certain schools get ready for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math and to help their teachers do that work. The program must be done with the military department heads, the Secretary of Education, the National Science Foundation, and other suitable groups. It can offer internships and research opportunities, scholarships and fellowships, better STEM teaching and curricula, travel, demonstrations, mentoring, and informal science activities. The Secretary must use outcome-based measures and outside and inside reviews to judge if the activities help meet Department of Defense needs. "Covered schools" means elementary or secondary schools with a large number of military dependents enrolled.
