Defines who counts as being in a promotion zone, above it, or below it for warrant officers on active-duty lists. Promotion zone: officers on the warrant officer active-duty list in the same grade (or same grade and competitive category) who are eligible for promotion and, for grades below chief warrant officer, W–5, have not failed selection or been removed from a recommended list; the zone ends at the junior officer the Secretary names as eligible. Warrant officers above the promotion zone: eligible officers in the same grade who are senior to the senior officer in the promotion zone. Warrant officers below the promotion zone: eligible officers in the same grade who are junior to the junior officer in the promotion zone. The active-duty list in section 573(b) includes the active-duty promotion list established by section 41a of title 14.
