Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

Lets the Secretary of Energy keep money from certain sales, leases, or disposals of Department of Energy assets to pay the costs of doing those transactions, even if another law would normally require the money to go elsewhere. The amount kept can equal the transaction’s costs, which include running the sale or lease, getting the asset ready or recovering it, and any other related costs. Applies to six specific actions involving assets at Savannah River Site (SC), Hanford Reservation (WA), Rocky Flats (CO), and the National Electronics Recycling Center in Oak Ridge (TN). It does not change how subchapter II of chapter 5 and section 549 of title 40 apply to disposing of the covered equipment and personal property.
