Summary

Under rules the Secretary of Defense makes, the appropriate service secretary may let a member who has been assigned or deployed at least 270 days in a place the President has named a combat zone — and where hardship duty pay is authorized under 37 U.S.C. 305 or 352(a) — take up to 15 days of rest and recuperation. The government will cover round‑trip travel from where the member is serving for that R&R. The Secretary of Defense can set other eligibility rules. These R&R days and travel are in addition to any other leave the member already has.
