Enlisted Army members are allowed to take classes to improve their military skills and to learn trades for civilian work, such as farming or mechanical jobs. The training must not conflict with military duties and must follow rules set by the Secretary of the Army and approved by the President. Civilian teachers can help Army instructors. Every post with soldiers must have schools that teach basic subjects, including U.S. history. The Secretary can assign soldiers to run these schools. Post commanders must provide a suitable room or building for the schools and for religious activities.
