Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle C— - Navy and Marine Corps › Part PART IV— - GENERAL ADMINISTRATION › Chapter CHAPTER 883— - PRIZE › § 8867
A court can order prize property to be moved to another judicial district if the court thinks selling it there will be better for everyone involved. The court can tell the marshal to transfer the property, get insurance, and give directions about when and how to sell it. The marshal must move the property, keep it safe, sell it as if it were in his own district, and put the full sale money with the U.S. Treasurer or the nearest public deposit place at the sale location, under the control of the court handling the case. Costs for insurance, moving, storage, and sale come out of the property or its sale money. If the marshal pays expenses first, any unpaid amount may be repaid to him like other government case expenses. The Secretary of the Navy can also order such a transfer by rule or special direction, and it will be handled the same way.
