The Secretary of the Air Force can have civilians from civilian flight schools that the Air Force approves come to Air Force training commands for instruction. The training is free to the United States, except the schools must pay for any supplies needed for training. If a trainee gets sick or hurt, they may be treated in a government hospital. The government will pay for government medical staff and hospital equipment use, but not for medicines or other supplies. If a civilian is injured in the training, or a dependent dies from disease or injury tied to the training, neither the injured civilian nor the dependent can receive compensation, a pension, or a gratuity.
