§994 Military working dogs: veterinary care for retired military working dogs

Summary

The Secretary of Defense can create and run a program to give veterinary care to retired military working dogs. The program cannot use money from the Federal Government. Any military working dog adopted under section 2583 of this title is eligible. The care must meet standards the Secretary sets and updates.

(a)The Secretary of Defense may establish and maintain a system to provide for the veterinary care of retired military working dogs. No funds may be provided by the Federal Government for this purpose.
(b)A retired military working dog eligible for veterinary care under this section is any military working dog adopted under section 2583 of this title.
(c)The veterinary care provided under the system authorized by this section shall meet such standards as the Secretary shall establish and from time to time update.
