Title 12 › Chapter CHAPTER 13— - NATIONAL HOUSING › § 1701d–4
The HUD Secretary can share and gather housing and urban-planning data with other countries, for example by joining international meetings or other exchanges, when it helps HUD do its job. The Secretary can pay costs for people who take part in these activities—such as pay, travel, and per diem for advisors who travel—but travel costs can’t be higher than what regular federal officers and employees get. The Secretary can also accept money, services, places, materials, and other gifts from international groups, foreign governments, or private nonprofit foundations to use together on these activities. Any international programs or activities done this way must be approved by the Secretary of State so they agree with U.S. foreign policy.
