§1701z–5 Demonstrations of heating or cooling residential housing utilizing solar energy

Title 12 › Chapter CHAPTER 13— - NATIONAL HOUSING › § 1701z–5

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Secretary can run projects, after talking with the National Science Foundation, to test whether using solar energy to heat or cool homes works and makes economic sense. The tests must cover single-family and multi-family housing in different climates, and in both cities and rural areas. The Secretary may hire experts with contracts or grants, use federal housing loan or mortgage-insurance tools, and waive any rules that would stop a test. Each project must include a full evaluation of all stages.
