Title 12 › Chapter CHAPTER 43— - ACTIONS AGAINST PERSONS COMMITTING BANK FRAUD CRIMES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - DECLARATIONS PROVIDING UNITED STATES WITH NEW INFORMATION CONCERNING RECOVERY OF ASSETS › § 4227
When the Attorney General tells a person that their claims haven’t been dealt with, that person has 30 days to ask the Attorney General for a contract under subchapter III so they can pursue the case. The Attorney General must reply within 30 days of getting that request. The Attorney General will either give the contract or go ahead with the government’s own action. If a contract is given, the person, after talking with the Attorney General, may choose a lawyer to prosecute the case, and both must follow the rules in subchapter III.
