§5015 Study and report on funds availability

Title 12 › Chapter CHAPTER 50— - CHECK TRUNCATION › § 5015

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Board must study five topics about how checks are handled. The study covers how often paper checks are not returned to the paying bank; whether banks let customers use money from local and nonlocal checks before the maximum hold time ends; how quickly depositary banks learn a check was not paid; changes in check-related losses; and whether the time and dollar limits in sections 4002 and 4003, as they were on October 28, 2003, are still appropriate. By the end of the 30-month period that starts on the chapter’s effective date, the Board must send Congress a report with the study results and recommendations for changes in the law.
