Title 12 › Chapter CHAPTER 53— - WALL STREET REFORM AND CONSUMER PROTECTION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER V— - BUREAU OF CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION › Part Part C— - Specific Bureau Authorities › § 5536
It is illegal for covered persons or service providers (people or companies that offer financial products or services) to do any of these things: offer or sell financial products or services that break federal consumer financial rules, or fail to follow those rules; use unfair, deceptive, or abusive practices; refuse when required to let the Bureau see or copy records, fail to create or keep required records, or fail to give reports or information to the Bureau; or knowingly or recklessly give major help to someone who is breaking those rules — a helper will be treated as breaking the rules too. Simply selling time or space for an advertisement does not by itself make someone guilty of these violations.
