If a person knowingly charges more interest than section 85 allows, they lose the right to any interest on that note, bill, or other debt. If the extra interest was paid, the payer (or their legal representatives) can sue the association that took it to get back twice the amount paid, but the lawsuit must be started within two years from when the usurious transaction happened.
