Coast Guard enlisted members, civilian vessel officers and crews, and field working parties may get a food ration or its cash value, in amounts and under limits the Secretary sets. The cash is paid to the person entitled or to an officer the Commandant names to run mess finances. Funds may be kept in public depositories or insured banks and are handled under the Secretary’s rules. Anyone getting a subsistence allowance cannot also get a ration or its cash.
