Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE III— - COAST GUARD RESERVE AND AUXILIARY › Chapter CHAPTER 37— - COAST GUARD RESERVE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - ADMINISTRATION › § 3705
Coast Guard Reserve members on active duty, doing inactive-duty training, or traveling to or from that duty get the same benefits as Navy Reserve members of the same rank, job, and years of service. When counting service time, include any service the law counts for Regular Coast Guard members. Chapter 27 of Title 14 applies to Reservists the same way it does to Regular Coast Guard members. If a Reservist becomes sick, disabled, or dies, they get the same sickness, disability, or survivor benefits as a Navy Reservist. Reservists on active duty or retired for disability get benefits under section 253(a) of Title 42 and chapter 55 of Title 10. Except for enlisted members who retire for years of active service (who get Regular Coast Guard enlisted retirement), Reservists get the same retirement rights as Navy Reservists, and the Secretary gets similar authority as the Secretary of the Navy when the Coast Guard is not operating as part of the Navy. A Reservist in an officer candidate program under section 12209 of Title 10 who is a full‑time college student working on a bachelor’s degree may get a monthly subsistence allowance at the rate in section 209(a) of Title 37.
