Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE III— - COAST GUARD RESERVE AND AUXILIARY › Chapter CHAPTER 37— - COAST GUARD RESERVE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - PERSONNEL › § 3743
Reserve officers who are on active status can be considered for promotion. But if a retention board convened under section 3752(a) looked at an officer and did not recommend keeping them on active status, that officer cannot be considered for promotion. The Commandant may let an officer ask to be skipped by the next promotion selection board. The Commandant will approve that request only if it’s to let the officer finish a career-building assignment, more schooling, another valuable job, a delayed career requirement, or a similar qualifying reason; the Commandant believes it’s best for the Coast Guard; and the officer has never failed promotion selection for that grade before.
