Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE III— - COAST GUARD RESERVE AND AUXILIARY › Chapter CHAPTER 39— - COAST GUARD AUXILIARY › § 3911
Coast Guard funds can pay for needed travel costs and meal allowances for Auxiliary members doing approved duties. The funds can also cover needed operating costs for motorboats, yachts, aircraft, radio stations, or motorized vehicles used under section 3907(b) while on Coast Guard duty. The money cannot pay wages for people who work on those craft or equipment unless they are Coast Guard or Reserve personnel. "Actual necessary expenses of operation" means things like fuel, supplies, repairs or replacement, and losses when the Coast Guard is found responsible. If a payment allowed here isn’t made within 60 days after the claim is filed as the Secretary requires, the Secretary may pay interest. The interest rate is the annual rate set in section 6621 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
