If a request to extend protection is not denied under section 1141h, the Director must issue a certificate of extension and publish a notice in the Official Gazette of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. From the certificate’s issue date, that extension is treated the same as a registration on the Principal Register, and the owner of the international registration gets the same rights and legal remedies as an owner of a Principal Register registration.
