China Trade Act corporations must keep an agent in Washington, D.C. to accept court papers and appear in D.C.’s federal court; if that agent becomes unavailable (for example, by death, inability to be served, resignation, or removal), the company must appoint a successor within the time the Secretary sets and file certified appointment and consent copies with the Secretary.
