Title 15 › Chapter CHAPTER 41— - CONSUMER CREDIT PROTECTION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - CONSUMER CREDIT COST DISCLOSURE › Part Part B— - Credit Transactions › § 1646
The Bureau must collect and publish annual percentage rates (APRs) for common kinds of nonsale credit (credit not tied to a sale) in several metropolitan areas it picks. It can require creditors in those areas to give the information it needs. Twice a year the Bureau must also gather credit‑card price and availability data from a broad sample of issuers that includes the 25 largest card issuers and at least 125 other institutions chosen for geographic balance and variety. Those institutions must report under Bureau rules. The Bureau must make the data public on request and report it to Congress twice a year. It may hire others or provide funds to help do this.
