Credit repair companies must not lie or steer anyone to lie about a person’s creditworthiness to credit bureaus, to lenders, or to people the consumer asks for credit. They must not tell or help a consumer change their identity to hide accurate, not-outdated negative information. They must not make false claims about what their services will do or use tricks, fraud, or deception when offering or selling their services. A credit repair company also may not charge or take any money for a promised service until that service is completely finished.
