Credit reporting companies must not include negative items in a person’s credit report if those items came from severe human trafficking or sex trafficking and the person gives the company paperwork proving they are a trafficking victim. Definitions: "trafficking documentation" — paperwork from a Federal, State, or Tribal government or a court showing someone is a trafficking victim and naming which negative items should be excluded; "severe forms of trafficking" and "sex trafficking" — as defined in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act; "victim of trafficking" — someone harmed by those trafficking types. The Director had to issue rules within 180 days after December 27, 2021 that set up a way for people to submit this paperwork.
