Title 15 › Chapter CHAPTER 2— - FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION; PROMOTION OF EXPORT TRADE AND PREVENTION OF UNFAIR METHODS OF COMPETITION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER IV— - LABELING OF FUR PRODUCTS › § 69e
The Commission must work with the Departments of Agriculture and the Interior to make, within six months after August 8, 1951 and after public hearings, a list called the Fur Products Name Guide that names hair, fleece, and fur-bearing animals. The names must be the animals’ true English names, or, if no true English name exists, a name that properly identifies the animal in the United States. The Commission can later add or remove names from the guide, again with those departments’ help and after public hearings. If a name implies a place of origin that is not the animal’s true origin, the Commission can require extra wording when that name is used so people aren’t confused or misled.
