Title 15 › Chapter CHAPTER 2B— - SECURITIES EXCHANGES › § 78d–4
The Inspector General must set up and run a phone hotline or other electronic ways for Commission employees to send two things: suggestions to make work better, and reports of waste, abuse, misconduct, or mismanagement. The Inspector General must keep the identity of anyone who uses the hotline secret unless that person asks in writing. If the person asks, the Inspector General must also keep specific information private. The Inspector General must review tips and recommend what to do. The Inspector General may reward employees whose ideas improve efficiency or reduce problems. Each year the Inspector General must report to Congress on the kinds and number of suggestions and reports, their possible benefits or seriousness, the Inspector General’s actions on proven reports, and what the Commission did in response. These activities are paid from the Securities and Exchange Commission Investor Protection Fund under section 78u–6.
