Information in registration statements, applications, reports, or other documents filed with the Commission must be made public. The Commission can make rules or issue orders to keep parts private when making them public is not needed or would hurt the public interest or investor protection. Except as provided in section 78x(c) of this title, Commission members, officers, and employees may not use nonpublic information from those filings for personal gain or share it with anyone except U.S. or State officials who need it for official work. Copies of information the Commission makes public must be given to anyone for a reasonable charge and under reasonable limits the Commission sets.
