§8543 Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research and National Weather Service exchange program

Summary

Allows the Assistant Administrator for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research and the Director of the National Weather Service to create a staff-exchange program so OAR scientists and NWS operational staff work together to improve forecasting. Up to 10 staff may be detailed for up to 1 year, and candidates are chosen jointly by the two leaders. At least once each year, the Under Secretary must report to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology of the House of Representatives on who took part and any innovations that came from the program.
