Title 15 › Chapter CHAPTER 117— - IDENTIFYING OUTPUTS OF GENERATIVE ADVERSARIAL NETWORKS › § 9201
Congress says we need more research to find and study fake or altered videos, audio, and photos, including those made by generative adversarial networks (GANs), and to improve digital forensics to trace where files came from. The National Science Foundation already funds AI work and lists the "10 Big Ideas for NSF Future Investment," including "Harnessing the Data Revolution" and "Future of Work at the Human-Technology Frontier." GAN outputs must be included in that research because they could cause serious national security and social harm, and other methods besides GANs might also create convincing deepfakes.
