Summary

Creates a Center for Artificial Intelligence inside NOAA. The Center must run a program to improve how NOAA uses AI. It will organize AI research and tools across the agency, set data rules and keep a central store for AI apps, speed up moving research into real operations, train NOAA staff, build partnerships with government, companies, and colleges, and make NOAA data ready for AI use. The Administrator must work with businesses, universities, other federal agencies, research groups, and users of the data and tools. Congress authorized $10,000,000 for fiscal year 2021 to carry out this work. The Administrator may withhold models or data when needed to protect U.S. national security, and may consult the Secretary of Defense. This does not override other national security laws. Administrator — NOAA’s Administrator. Center — NOAA’s AI Center.
