Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 24— - CONSERVATION AND PROTECTION OF NORTH PACIFIC FUR SEALS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - ADMINISTRATION OF PRIBILOF ISLANDS › § 1168
Counts certain work by natives of the Pribilof Islands before January 1, 1950 — like taking and curing fur seal skins and related island duties — as civilian service for retirement under subchapter III of chapter 83 of title 5. If someone who did that work died or retired before November 2, 1966 and was getting an annuity from the civil service retirement and disability fund, their annuity or their survivor’s annuity can be changed to include that service if the annuitant files an application within one year after November 2, 1966. The change takes effect the first day of the month after November 2, 1966. This credit does not give the benefits in section 8342(h) of title 5. Payments for these added benefits come from the civil service retirement and disability fund but must be repaid to that fund by the Operations, Research, and Facilities Account of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, using the cost figure the Director of the Office of Personnel Management sets each fiscal year.
