Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 54— - RESOURCE CONSERVATION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER VI— - MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS › § 3472
Congress says demand for U.S. farm products will grow a lot over the next 20 years, but soil loss is a big problem. The country loses 5 billion tons of soil each year to wind and water. That loss hurts our ability to meet demand even though the federal government spends millions on research, help, and incentives. Conservation tillage can cut erosion by 50 to 90% and can give better yields, lower fuel and labor costs, hold more moisture, and work on many soils and slopes. Congress urges the Secretary of Agriculture to tell farmers about the costs and benefits of conservation tillage and to run research to answer any remaining questions about it.
