§3951 Definitions

Summary

Lists the key words used in the chapter and says who or what each word refers to. Secretary refers to the U.S. Secretary of the Army. Administrator refers to the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Development activities are any actions, including placing dredged or fill material, that cause more than a very small change in water flow, bottom shape, or wetland plants, or that harm water movement in wetlands or other waters. State means the State of Louisiana. Coastal State means a U.S. state that borders the Atlantic, Pacific, or Arctic Oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, Long Island Sound, or the Great Lakes, and also includes Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Trust Territories of the Pacific Islands, and American Samoa. A coastal wetlands restoration project is any technically possible effort to create, restore, protect, or improve Louisiana’s coastal wetlands (for example by moving sediment or managing water) that the Task Force finds will significantly help the long-term physical, chemical, and biological health of those wetlands; it covers new or ongoing projects, parts of projects, and their operation, maintenance, and repair, and its main goal must not be navigation, irrigation, or flood control. A coastal wetlands conservation project means either obtaining a long-term conservation interest in coastal land or water, or restoring/managing wetlands on land or water held for long-term conservation. Governor means the Governor of Louisiana. Task Force means the Louisiana Coastal Wetlands Conservation and Restoration Task Force, made up of the Secretary (who serves as chair), the EPA Administrator, the Governor, the Secretary of the Interior, the Secretary of Agriculture, and the Secretary of Commerce. Director refers to the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
