Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LIX–A— - LOWELL NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK › Part Part A— - Establishment of Park and Preservation District › § 410cc
Protect and interpret Lowell, Massachusetts' nationally important Industrial Revolution sites and buildings. Congress says Lowell shows the Industrial Revolution, keeps alive the cultural heritage of many immigrant groups, and contains many historic resources from that time — including a 5.6-mile power canal, seven original mill complexes, and early housing, commercial, transportation, and labor-related buildings. Even with city and state spending, these places may be lost without federal help. The goal is to preserve and explain these places for present and future generations by following, as much as practicable, the recommendations in the Lowell Historic Canal District Commission report.
