Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LIX–DD— - BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON NATIONAL PARK AND GUNNISON GORGE NATIONAL CONSERVATION AREA › § 410fff–6
Creates the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness of approximately 17,700 acres inside the Conservation Area and makes it part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. An approximately 300-acre part of a wilderness study area shown on the map is released from section 1782(c) of title 43 and will be added into the Conservation Area. Valid rights that existed on October 21, 1999 must be respected. The area must be managed under the Wilderness Act, but when applying that Act its effective date means the effective date of this law and any mention of the Secretary of Agriculture means the Secretary of the Interior. Colorado keeps its wildlife and fish authority on these public lands. As soon as practicable after October 21, 1999, the Secretary of the Interior must file a map and legal description of the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness with the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Resources. That map and description have the same force as if written into the law. The Secretary may fix clerical or typographical errors, and the map and description will be kept on file at the Bureau of Land Management Director’s office.
