Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LIX–FF— - GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE › § 410hhh–2
The Secretary of the Interior must create Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado once enough land with a good variety of resources has been bought. The park will match the official map and the creation becomes official when the Secretary publishes a notice in the Federal Register. The map will be kept on file and open for the public to see. Until the park is created, the Secretary must each year tell the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Resources how many acres are still needed and how land purchases are progressing. When the park is created, the Great Sand Dunes National Monument ends and its money can be used for the park. Any law or paper that says “Great Sand Dunes National Monument” will be read as “Great Sand Dunes National Park.” Any Department of the Interior land shown on the map inside the park or preserve that was not managed by the National Park Service on November 22, 2000 will be transferred to the Park Service.
