The Secretary can get land or land rights inside the park by donation, by buying it with donor or government money, by trading for it, or by transfer. Land owned by the State of Michigan or its local governments can only be received as a donation. The Secretary must have the owner’s permission to acquire land unless the Secretary finds the land is being developed, or is planned to be developed, in a way that would harm the park’s natural, scenic, historic, or other values.
