People must not, without permission from the Secretary of the Interior, destroy, damage, remove, or deface monuments, statues, memorials, protective fences or railings, works of art, trees, shrubs, timber, battle relics, earthworks, walls, defenses, or similar features on a battlefield, and hunting inside the battlefield limits is also banned. Anyone who breaks this rule and is convicted in court must pay a fine of not less than $5 and not more than $500 for each offense. The judge sets the amount based on how serious the act was. Half of the fine goes for use of the battlefield and half goes to the person who reported the offense. The fine is collected under the procedures that were in effect on July 3, 1926.
