The Secretary of the Interior may get land and buildings to add to Fort Donelson National Battlefield. Property can only come from willing owners by purchase with federal or donated money, by gift, or by exchange. Land inside the park or land outside it can be acquired if the American Battlefield Protection Program says it’s part of the battlefield or the Secretary finds it protects resources tied to the 1862 Battle of Fort Donelson and the Union campaign that captured it. Any outside purchase must be added to the park’s boundaries. The park cannot be larger than 2,000 acres.
