Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LX— - NATIONAL MILITARY PARKS › § 430f–6
Creates the Corinth Unit of the Shiloh National Military Park and explains why. In 1996, Congress approved building a center to tell the story of the Siege and Battle of Corinth and other Civil War events near Corinth, Mississippi. That center must work with state and local governments, private groups, and individuals. A federal commission ranked the Corinth battlefield as a priority 1 site needing national action by the year 2000. Congress found there is a national interest in saving Civil War places and that Mississippi, Tennessee, and local governments can help and limit harmful uses. Directs the Secretary of the Interior to manage, protect, and explain the Civil War resources in and around Corinth, working with Mississippi, Tennessee, the city of Corinth, other public bodies, and private partners. Also authorizes a special study to find other nearby Civil War sites that match the Corinth themes, meet the standards to become part of the National Park System, and would be suitable to add to the Unit.
