Secretary of the Interior may lease the land back to the immediately preceding owner(s) if they agree to follow the purposes of sections 430j–430m and 430o–430s. They must preserve existing fortifications, buildings, roads, and the battlefield layout; only cut trees or disturb soil under the Secretary’s rules; and protect tablets, monuments, and other man-made markers.
