Land bought under section 450ll becomes the Booker T. Washington National Monument, a public national memorial honoring Booker T. Washington, whom the law describes as a noted Negro educator and an apostle of good will. The Secretary of the Interior must manage and care for the monument and keep it in a proper, lasting condition so people across the United States can enjoy and benefit from it.
