Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LXIII— - NATIONAL SEASHORE RECREATIONAL AREAS › § 459j
Creates the Canaveral National Seashore to protect its important natural, scenic, scientific, ecological, and historic features and to give people places for outdoor recreation. The seashore covers about 67,500 acres and follows the boundary shown on the map called "Boundary Map, Canaveral National Seashore", dated August 1974, number NS–CAN–40,000A. The boundary starts at the intersection of State Highway 3 and State Road 402, follows State Road 402 east to a point one-half mile offshore in the Atlantic, then runs northwesterly one-half mile from the high water line to Bethune Beach, goes inland generally west through Turner Flats and Shipyard Canal, then northwest to the Intracoastal Waterway, south along the Intracoastal to the Kennedy Space Center boundary, southwest to U.S. Highway 1, and south on State Highway 3 back to the start. The map is on file at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service in Washington, D.C. The Secretary may make small boundary changes by publishing a revised map or description in the Federal Register. Before doing so, the Secretary must notify in writing the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Natural Resources at least 60 days in advance. Any changes cannot increase the total acreage beyond 67,500 acres.
