Michigan keeps control of hunting, fishing, and wildlife on lands the Secretary owns. After talking with Michigan, the Secretary may ban hunting, fishing, or trapping in certain areas or times for safety, management, to protect non‑hunted species and habitats, or for public use. The Secretary must tell state officials and nearby residents where and when bans apply; except in emergencies, rules must follow consultation with Michigan’s fish and wildlife agency.
